Prehnite is one of the very few stones in the crystal kingdom which connects the heart and solar plexus chakra, it strengthens our willpower and ensures we act from a place of love and compassion.  This connection teaches us to make our deepest dreams and inspirations a priority.  Because of its calming abilities, the stone is said to dispel nightmares, night terrors, phobias, and deep fears as it removes and heals the dis-ease which creates them.  It is a stone of lucid dreaming and remembering, while it also calms hyperactive children.

As with any crystal, it wouldn’t be a true healing stone if it didn’t have the ability to heal the physical body as well.  Prehnite is said to be extremely beneficial for the kidneys, bladder, thymus gland, shoulders, chest, and lungs.  It also is said to treat gout and blood disorders while repairing the body’s connective tissue and stabilizing malignancies.

Prehnite was first discovered in 1788 by A.G. Werner, but it was actually named after the Dutch Military Colonel, Hendrik Von Prehn who was in charge of the area where the mineral was found. Since its discovery, prehnite has since been found in other parts of the world like China, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

Prehnite was seen as a vital tool for those in leadership positions.  Shamans believed that the stone allowed them the ability to make the right decisions for their tribe.  This is fascinating considering that they had no way of knowing the stone’s healing properties aside from just feeling it energetically.  Then again, that’s what prehnite is all about – leading with the heart.
