Less is Better
As I get older, I am realizing that all the “things” in my life that once made my heart sing are now merely dust collectors and objects that make me feel closed in. The cock collection that I spent years accumulating on so many sojourns to antique shops and thrift stores, the trinkets that would “just be perfect” next to another treasured item, are now just mere “things” that require a lot of dusting and that are taking up valuable real estate in my home with no actual value or joy to me anymore.
I have come to realize over time that what really brings me joy is to simply sit in my bedroom looking out my window watching the birds bathing in the puddles of sprinkler water, frittering about from one feeder to another while chasing each other in hopes to get to the food first.
My backyard is my own perfect oasis buzzing with life and exuding beauty, peacefulness and intrigue. From the insects, butterflies and birds to the budding plants, falling leaves and wind in the trees, it is all in perfect harmony.
I am sitting here this morning sipping my morning brew while watching the birds hopping around on the freshly watered grass searching for worms. They’re so happy it’s contagious! I am overjoyed by this early morning activity going on in my own yard and feel so privileged to be watching the show.
My spring intention is to slowly begin clearing out all the unnecessary items causing clutter in my home and my new rule is that for anything new coming into my home, two items need to leave. I have just gone through my closet and have a nice pile of business attire that I no longer have use for since I work from home and no longer attend required business functions.
One of my clients turned me on to a wonderful organization where you can donate professional clothing for law students to wear to court proceedings. I have also found another organization for people who are reentering the workforce that also are in need of professional wear. I’m so excited to be able to donate my once beloved items for such great purposes. Send me your personal take on clutter and what effect it’s had on you and your life. I can’t wait to hear from you.
