The Wonder of Birds
My daughter came to visit last week and as she approached my front door, a bird flew straight at her and startled her. We both thought it was strange but soon forgot about it and moved on with our visit. I generally don’t utilize my front door much as I leave through the garage and come home the same way. Since the weather is warming up now, I opened my front and back doors this morning to get a nice cross breeze going in my house and I again noticed a little bird flying around my porch.
After a little investigation, I finally figured it out. A friend of mine had given me a lovely live Christmas wreath and since it is still looking great and hasn’t dropped its needles here in April, I still have it hanging on my front door.
As I was looking at it from the inside of my screen door, I noticed some fuzzy cotton and twigs hanging down so I decided to investigate. I climbed up on a chair and looked at the top of the wreath and there was the cutest little birds nest with four tiny little eggs in it smaller than a dime. I checked the next morning and two of the eggs had already hatched.
I’m trying to stay away from the porch but with Amazon deliveries and neighbors, it is sometimes a bit difficult. I want to give the Mama bird her space so that she can nurture her babies in peace. This little bird is so precious guarding her eggs diligently and flying to the refuge of my pine tree when people come around. I can’t wait to see the little babies and hear their little chirps from the nest; that will be music to my ears. I will hopefully be able to get some great pictures as they grow and post them so you can all share my joy.
