Is there a “correct” spiritual path for everyone?
Here is a question that many people often ask. What is the “correct” spiritual path and is there only really one correct path for each of us? Frequently, clients comment that they are not certain if they are on the spiritual path meant for them. This is usually based on a belief that there is only one correct spiritual path predetermined for each person culminating only when the person is doing the “right thing,” whether it is the right love relationship, right profession, right religion or right spiritual belief system, the list is endless. Let us examine this limiting belief and let us further consider the possibility that there is most assuredly more than one possible path for each of us.
I am sure at one point or another, each of us has asked ourselves this question; what is my specific spiritual path supposed to be? We ask the question in hopes of finding the correct path or in finding someone who can guide us in our journey to find that path. We may not understand that we have free will and that we always have choices to make. I have found that stating your intention is essential in beginning your journey. When you hold the intention to live a purposeful life and you connect to the Universal Life Force, positive options will be revealed to you. Quite often, the choices we are considering are all very good ones so each choice would then be part of our spiritual path.
Here’s an example. You may be thinking about offering Yoga trainings to your clients and anyone else who desires to teach Yoga, but you know that this choice could take many hours away from your young children. You may be thinking one of these choices is right, and the other one is wrong. There is no right or wrong, just other perspectives to consider. The truth is that either one of these choices will have strong positive effects on your trainees and/or your children. Your trainees’ lives could be positively affected by teaching Yoga to others and themselves. On the other hand, although your children may have less time with you, they will also learn from your example of teaching others how to bring more healing energies into today’s world. Both options are good options, you don’t have to pick just one.
Could one option be better than another, though? The answer to this is yes. Although there are times when having several options is good, there are several ways to dial it down and figure out the best ones to proceed with.:
- First, determine your true heart’s desire. Our hearts hold our inner love and wisdom. What is your passion? What would fulfill you and make your heart sing? Write in your journal, meditate and create this path in your mind. Follow this path and do whatever you need to do to identify this desire. Ask for your heart to be open to all of the possibilities.
- Once you identify the desire, try to imagine it in detail; what would it look like, how would it make you feel? If you decided to offer Yoga trainings, imagine your teaching space and surroundings. Could you teach a class in the same space where you do your client sessions or would you need to rent a larger space? How many trainees could you teach at one time? Imagine yourself in front of the group passing on the art of Yoga.
- Absorb the energy of the scenario. Feel your passion and your excitement building as you create the path in your mind. Imagine the excitement of the trainees as well and feel the energy in the room. Let this energy permeate your body and propel you to this work! Feel your heart energies soar.
When you can feel that energy, you know you are on a fulfilling spiritual path. Finding your spiritual path is a process and the process itself is part of the spiritual path. What you feel compelled to do now may change over time as one activity can evolve into another, so have an open mind and follow the nudgings of your heart and trust that they will guide you to exactly where you need and want to be.
The Universe has provided a complex yet wonderful world in which we live. There are many, many opportunities for each of us to bring the much needed healing into this world right now. We can create healing every time we connect to the Universe, no matter what format it is. For those of us who already work with Yoga, we know in our hearts that it is an especially strong spiritual path; a path that enables us to not only serve others, but enables us to bring about more compassion and healing into the world.
Namaste
