Inexpensive Things To Indulge Yourself
We all face stress, tension and challenges on a daily basis but how we deal with them determines how we manage our emotions and responses to those challenges. Here are a few ideas that can help:
- Get Some Flowers Fresh-cut blooms, whether from the grocery store, a florist or your own yard can instantly put you at ease and remove feelings of tension. This could simply be because of their beauty or perhaps because flowers are often associated with happy events. You can choose flowers that are a specific color that might evoke certain feelings or you can select a scent you enjoy; either way, you can put them somewhere in your home or office where you’ll see them often.
- Take a break from your electronic world Put the cell phone down, give the Ipad a break and take some much needed time away from all the EMF’s surrounding you on a daily basis. It’s great to connect to people, but smartphones, tablets, and laptops make it difficult to ever get a break. If you find yourself online a lot, you may start to feel stressed about the fact that you don’t have enough time. Give yourself a much needed break and relax and recharge even if it’s only for a short while. Put all screens away, even if only for an hour. Use that time to be present instead.
- Take a Tea Break Take some time to make a cup of black or green tea to relax. It sounds far too simple to be true, but studies show that drinking tea can help reduce tension and improve your outlook. The smell, taste, warmth, and active ingredients in tea each seem to play a part in relaxation. Some herb teas, like chamomile, can also help reduce your anxiety.
- Go Outside and Get Some Fresh Air Being outside is one of the fastest ways to start to unwind. In as little as 20 minutes in nature can help to distract you from negative thoughts. You don’t have to go very far, you can even enjoy your own yard or a city park, it doesn’t matter what the location. The calming sounds you hear may also help to lower your blood pressure. You don’t need exert an excessive amount of energy to feel more relaxed. You can sit or stroll in any outdoor setting you enjoy. If for some reason you can’t be outside right now, you can always look at nature photos you love and get the same feel good sensations.
- Self Massage Sometimes, a quick self-massage can take your stress levels down a notch or two. You can massage your neck by putting your hands behind your head and making small circles with your thumbs. For your back, you can stand against a wall and place a tennis ball between your shoulder blades and move from side to side and up and down. To release tension in your face, try rubbing your forehead and jaw with your fingers.
- Take A Power Nap Sometimes, a short midday snooze can help lower tension and boost your mood. If you find your energy waning right after lunch or if you tend to sleep less than 7 hours a night, a power nap might be just what you need. See if you can find a quiet, dark place to close your eyes for 20 minutes and you’ll wake refreshed and more alert. Be sure to try and keep it less than a half hour; if you nap longer than that, you might wake up groggy and have problems going to sleep at night.
- Treat Yourself To Some Aromatherapy Lavender, vanilla, and jasmine are a few options that can help to send a smell-based “Relas” message to your body’s nervous system. Put a few drops of a scented oil into a diffuser or a spray bottle filled with water. You can also put a few drops on your skin and take the smell with you wherever you go. One word of caution for those of you with pets. Since some oils are toxic to animals, be sure you do your research or check with your vet first before using diffusers around your animals. You can also look for lotions and candles made with a scent you like for another calming experience.
