An Interview with Janice DeMooy, Reiki Master, Teacher, Hypnotherapist, Jun 1, 2021
How did you get started in Hypnosis?
I started out practicing Reiki and noticed in each session how the person I was working with was going into an altered state. It was at that point I decided that I needed to learn more about those altered states of consciousness to better serve my clients.
Are there different kinds of Hypnosis?
There are a few different approaches to Hypnosis. The first is direct suggestion which is a traditional kind of Hypnosis. It is sometimes called authoritarian as the hypnotist tells the passive client what to feel and how to be. The second is the permissive approach which uses specific language to draw out and include the client more in the overall process by asking and guiding rather than telling and directing.
Are results from hypnotherapy long lasting?
It has been my experience that the changes made during hypnotherapy are deeper and more permanent because the client’s deepest desire is uncovered and the client’s will is reestablished with both the conscious and unconscious in agreement. The reason change is so hard to achieve is due to the incongruence between the head and the heart. Here’s an example: Your mind knows you want to stop eating unconsciously for your health, but your heart is convinced that food is a reward for being a hard worker. Creating an inner dialogue between your conscious will and unconscious motivation helps to establish a level of inner understanding and awareness.
Have you ever met someone you could NOT hypnotize?
Let me start by saying that you cannot hypnotize someone who doesn’t want to be hypnotized. In my practice, I have never had a client that I couldn’t hypnotize. I have found that the intention of the practitioner and the client must be in alignment in order to have a successful outcome.
