Because Listening Is Powerful
Have you ever been involved in a conversation that was one sided? No matter how hard you tried, you couldn’t really get the other person to give you time to talk? There is nothing more frustrating than having the other person cut you off mid sentence to share something else about themselves. I have always believed in the old adage “we teach people how to treat us”. By allowing others to diminish you in any way, to dismiss your contributions to a conversation or to refuse to listen to what you have to say, you are teaching them how to treat you. Instead of suffering from those situations, it is much more advisable to express your concerns about the situation and teach them that listening can be just as powerful as speaking. Always be the good listener that you want others to be for you. Whether it is your family, your friends or your co-workers, you deserve to be heard but you also need to be a good listener to provide them with their contributions.
