Fall Leaves
I am enjoying my coffee this morning with a little pumpkin flavored creamer in honor of Halloween and I am enjoying it immensely. The wind is whipping around with a weather report of some rain today so I am snug in my house just watching all my maple leaves fall from my tree and flutter in the wind. Yesterday there wasn’t one leaf on the ground but today, it looks like 1/4 of my leaves have already made their way onto the ground.
Thankfully my gardeners are coming on Thursday to begin the cleanup. I have two gorgeous Ash trees on my side yard that are green all year until October and sometimes even as late as November before they turn a marvelous burgundy color. Both are deep maroon in color but haven’t started to drop the leaves yet. Usually, I can count on two big drops and then they are naked; it’s really quite amazing how quickly it all happens.
I remember when my kids were small, we would rake them all into a pile and they would run and jump into the leaves squealing with delight. When I was small, my dad would pile up the leaves in a wheelbarrow and each of us kids would get to ride on top of the pile as he took them out to the trash bins. We would often ruin his piles by jumping in them too. Despite his stern look, he would relent and let us dive in. It was great to be a kid with a house surrounded by trees; lots and lots of leaves to play in.
I miss those days and those when my own kids were small. Now, at least I still have my little dog Luna who loves to play in the leaves sometimes so I can get my trip down memory lane watching her chase them and lay in them. I have always loved the fall and this year is rounding out to be spectacular!
