The Gratitude Bath to Clear Your Energy, Article by Angie Webster
Keeping your energy clear and your vibration high can be a challenge at times. When there is a lot of unsettling news in the world, it becomes even more challenging than usual. Of course, we know Reiki helps with this, but having other tools is useful, too. One of the most helpful tools we can employ to help quickly shift our energy is intentional gratitude. Finding the place in our hearts where we remember the things that make us feel good, warm and joyful really opens our energy pathways and cleanses our aura of negativity. The best thing is, it really only takes a few minutes to do begin feeling better, even if you are feeling pretty discouraged and low.
I call this a Gratitude Bath:
- No matter where you are, begin looking around your surroundings. Notice things that make you happy, give you a smile or make your life better. Even if none of these things make you feel good right in that moment, if you know that they have in the past, that is what counts. Each time you notice something, state to yourself, either in your head or out loud “I am grateful for _______.”
It can be big things like your children, your pets, or your home, or it can be small things that often get overlooked, like a sunbeam, a flower, or a soft blanket. Try to name as many things as you can. - As you continue naming things, check in with yourself now and then to take note of how you are feeling emotionally and energetically. You will notice that you feel more and more open and expansive as you do this practice.
- You can also use memories of situations, events or people that you are grateful for, although it often helps to begin the practice with the objects in your immediate vicinity, as these are easier to focus on if you are upset. It is very grounding to focus on actual physical objects.
- If you notice that one thing you have found gratitude for makes you feel particularly good, spend a minute or so really focusing on that. Let your mind truly take in everything that you find good about it and allow that to sink down to your heart. Feel how your heart becomes warm and feels radiant and open. Bathe yourself in this feeling of gratitude and the healing it offers and savor it for as long as possible.
No matter who we are, we all have things to feel grateful for, even if they are small. Most of us have many things to be grateful for, though we may become too busy to notice most of them. It is important to our well-being and the well-being of the world to take a moment now and then to spend in gratitude. It opens us to receive love, to offer compassion and to be willing to forgive. Each of these moments we spend bathed in gratitude can bring us to greater levels of openness and healing.
