SERENITY…
I have been slowly working on my flower pots and arranging them around my patio and trying to figure out which ones do better in full sun, which ones in partial sun and which ones aren’t doing well no matter where they are located. I am gearing up to host a 60th wedding anniversary party for my parents in August and I want my little private backyard haven to look perfect; at least my version of perfect. I decided to purchase a small table top fountain as I love the sound of running water. I have a solar bird bath but it doesn’t make any noise at all. I was so excited to receive my fountain and followed the instructions on hooking up the pump, filled it with water and couldn’t wait to plug it in and hear those melodic sounds of running water.
I placed it in the corner of my covered patio on a glass topped table with a wrought iron frame. The first problem was that the cord was barely long enough to reach the outlet. The second problem is it didn’t power on when I plugged it into the outlet. I waited for what seemed an eternity only to have no water flow. I checked the outlet and realized there was no power. I then checked the breaker box but nothing had been tripped; it was a mystery.
I remembered a similar issue with my outlet on my front porch the prior year and realized this was one of those “GFI” situations. Every home has a few GFI outlets for areas that might encounter water sources so apparently I had one that had tripped, the problem was finding it. I searched high and low and ended up finding it behind a large cabinet in my garage. It was definitely tripped so I reset it and was finally able to plug my fountain in and enjoy the sound of flowing water.
As I settled into a nice cup of coffee on my patio yesterday morning, I was so overjoyed and grateful for all the beauty surrounding me and having my own peaceful and serene patio and backyard. Later that night, I was sitting in my living room watching a movie when I heard what sounded like an explosion and shattering glass. My heart sunk. As I opened my patio door, it became all to evident that the glass table had not been able to sustain the weight of the fountain. The fountain only holds a gallon and a half or two of water at the most so when I first opted to place it on that table, I must admit I did wonder about it but quickly dismissed my thoughts. The moral of the story; don’t ever dismiss the subtle nudgings of your instincts and/or gut feelings. They are there for a reason, to get you to take action.
My fountain thankfully only fell a few inches onto the wrought iron frame so it didn’t break. It is now residing on a solid wooden table and running smoothly. I am enjoying my early morning ritual of coffee in my yard, birds singing and not a care in the world. I am watching a bird taking a bath in the puddles left after the sprinklers ran this morning and he is enjoying his moment just as much as I am mine. Serenity at it’s best.
