Ready to Fly…
Well the little baby birds quickly got too big for that little nest that the mother built into the Christmas Wreath hanging on my front door. I was researching the growth span and trying to calculate when they might be ready to fly and was worried that they would fall out of the nest too soon. I was lying awake one night contemplating how I could fashion a box with greenery in it and attach it to my screen door in case they fell out. As I dozed off to sleep, my mind was on the babies.
I got up early and was planning my design and decided to check on the little babies but when I went around the corner, the nest was hanging off the wreath and there were no babies to be found. I was saddened to think that maybe something had happened to them but I was excited later that day when I heard the sound of little chirping coming from my Noble Fir tree that was close by. All four babies are alive and well and learning to fly. I am attaching the last photo I took before the nest fell and if you look closely, you can see all their feathers and their little eyes. You can also see that they were really too big for the nest at that point so it stands to reason they were ready to leave the nest.
