Be Mindful And Present
I was feeling particularly blessed this morning as I was soaking in my hot tub and enjoying my morning coffee. The sun was just coming up and the horizon was glowing with the promise of another beautiful day. The sun was shining through the leaves on the trees creating a shimmering display of bright yellows and burgundy. It was very relaxing and uplifting to see and I am so grateful to be able to have these experiences.
It was a wonderful way to start my day and it put me in such a great mood. After getting out and getting showered, I decided to take the dog for a walk and as I started out on the trail, I noticed there were quite a few people out walking, riding bikes or jogging this morning. One thing I did not expect however, was that almost every person I smiled at and said “Good Morning” to, simply ignored the interaction and kept moving.
I am always surprised at how many people can’t step outside their situation, thought or current place and simply acknowledge someone’s gestures or words by responding. Maybe a smile, a wave or a nod. Today, it appeared that most people didn’t want any interaction. Perhaps it was the Monday morning blues knowing they had to go to work or perhaps they didn’t sleep well last night or were battling with their own thoughts. Whatever the case, I didn’t let it deter my good mood. I continued on my walk and acknowledged everyone no matter what. No one was going to ruin my wonderful morning. It was simply a positive reminder to myself to always be mindful and present and to treat people the way I would like to be treated no matter what the situation. Life’s lessons at work.
