Fall In Telluride
I just got back from a trip to Telluride, Colorado for my son’s wedding. The photo is the view from our condo which was an amazing treat. The drive up from Albuquerque was also true gift, a vision like no other I have ever seen before. The spectacular array of fall colors were a treat for all the senses and driving through the bright fluorescent yellow, orange and red trees was nothing short of breathtaking. We drove for miles and just when we thought we had seen the brightest trees possible, we would come around the next corner to even brighter ones; it was like having a sensory bath from the eyes to the toes; quite unlike anything I have ever experienced before.
We have lovely trees changing colors here in Albuquerque this time of year but this was unlike anything I have ever seen here. My son and his fiance had met in Telluride and they were supposed to get married last year at this same time but had to cancel due to Covid restrictions. We were told by many of the locals in Telluride that the trees had already dropped all their leaves by this time last year and that it was nothing like this year. My contention has always been that everything happens for a reason. It was expecially true because this year was absolutely perfect for the venue and the photo opportunities so everyone was glad that it worked out this way.
The weather was wonderful up until the day of the wedding and even moments before the ceremony. The event was outside at the San Sophia overlook at the top of the mountain with the town of Telluride below. The view was stunning and literally took my breath away (and not just because we were at 10,000+ feet). As we all waited anxiously for the ceremony to begin, the clouds moved in, the thunder started, the winds picked up and the temperature dropped rapidly. The bride and groom were determined to make it through their vows despite the inclement weather and the wind wreaking havoc on everyone’s hair and clothing. In the end, the timing was perfect and they managed to get through the ceremony right before the rain started and turned to hail and then snowflakes. It was quite amazing to have all types of weather that day and it is something we will all remember for a long time to come.
We all experienced not only a lovely wedding, but Mother Nature at her best. It is a memory I will cherish for my lifetime.
