Traditional Acupuncture is an ancient practice has been used for nearly 2000 years and focuses on the whole person, not just the symptoms. The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) philosophy believes that our physical, emotional, and mental health are interconnected, and that our bodies are full of energy or Qi. When our Qi goes out of balance, we can experience pain or illness. Acupuncture uses a Holistic approach by seeking to rebalance your energy to help in healing.
Your practitioner will ask you questions and evaluate your overall health. Then they will have you lay down on a treatment table and small acupuncture needles will be inserted into the skin at specific trigger points to help rebalance your Qi or energy. This is minimally invasive and stimulates your immune system, improves circulation, and helps with healing wounds and pain. Infrared lamps will be used to help keep you warm and increases your body’s response to the treatment. You will then listen to relaxing music while you rest for 30 minutes to an hour. When you are done, the needles will be removed.
It is recommended that you eat two hours before and drink lots of water before and after your appointment. Fatigue is normal, so plan on spending the rest of your day relaxing. Some mild physical activity is fine but take it easy and avoid doing anything strenuous. Plan to spend some time with us and let us know if you have anything scheduled so we can be sure to get you out on time.
